Why does the job exist?

The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. This position is part of the Facilities Division. The Maintenance and Repair Specialist ensures that all buildings are safely and efficiently maintained. Including maintaining operations of boilers, chillers, heating, cooling and ventilation to regulate proper and efficient operation, to repair plaster, dry wall, paint and fix roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork and other parts of the building structures. Repairing and maintaining machines and mechanical equipment.


How does it get done?

The Senior Maintenance & Repair Specialist will perform daily maintenance rounds, including offices, mechanical rooms and electrical rooms. This position will perform assigned daily maintenance work orders, help maintain a working stock of common maintenance materials, and notify the supervisor when supplies are running low so additional items can be ordered. This position will maintain a clean and safe working environment, along with being available as needed for snow removal.


Who are the customers?

Internal: Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division; Administrative Services; Commercial Division; Legal Division; Surface Resources Division; and executive State Land Office management officials (Office of the Commissioner).

External: New Mexico public schools, universities and hospitals; individuals; general public; lessees (agricultural, oil and gas companies, commercial, rights-of-ways); natural resource authorization users; program enrollees; hunters; other government entities (state, federal, city, county, tribal).


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

-4 years of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, plumbing, electrical and/or appliance repair.


Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, or appliance repair. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.


Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Must obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Driving Certificate.


Working Conditions

Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, work in inclement weather (cold and hot). Must be able to shovel snow and carry tools and equipment around large building.
