Licensed Practical Nurse : Nottoway Correctional Center Location: Nottoway Correctional Center Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin Hiring Range: $30.05 - $38.99/hr. Pay Band: 3 Recruitment Type: General Public - G Agency Website: Job Duties Sign‑On Bonus: $3,500 (up to $10,000 student loan repayment may be available for eligible new hires). Provide evidence‑based nursing care using the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Screen sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed. Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff, providing input to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan. Record all pertinent information into the medical record. Interact with other departments as needed. Promote continued competence through education/certification focused on correctional nursing. Work required hours, days, and locations as assigned, and be available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Accept assignments to other duties or locations as necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Possess a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi‑state compact license. Recent graduates of a VA nursing program who are not licensed must schedule the NCLEX‑PN exam at the time of application. Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care. Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals. Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care. Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire. Additional Considerations Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment. Experience or related training in the delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
