Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe Corporate Counsel, Healthcare Privacy works closely with senior attorneys to provide legal guidance to leadership on a wide range of privacy, healthcare, and data use matters, with a strong emphasis on advising on the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and permissible uses and disclosures of protected health information. Reviews new and ongoing business activities to advise on federal and state patient and consumer privacy laws, including HIPAA, CPRA, and related company privacy policies and procedures, and helps incorporate privacy by design into business reviews. Provides practical legal guidance on HIPAA issues involving all pharmacy lines of business including specialty pharmacy operations and hub services. Performs privacy review of contracts, including negotiation of DPAs, BAAs, and data use agreements as well as reviewing contracts related to de-identified data. Keeps current on HIPAA guidance, healthcare privacy enforcement trends, and industry developments. Partners and collaborates with peer reviewing teams such as the Legal Division, Data Governance, Information Security, Pharmacy Operations, Compliance, and Government Relations to advise on privacy components of new projects, products, programs, and services and potential impacts of new and evolving privacy laws.Job ResponsibilitiesHandles routine legal matters which generally focus on applying knowledge of one or more legal specialtiesTypically receives specific direction from management or more senior law professionals as to the outcomes, process and schedules expected while developing a deeper knowledge of the business operations of the companyCollaborates with cross-functional teams to execute legal strategyAssists on cases, matters and projects, performs and supervises research, reviews standard documents and routine contracts, and prepares routine filings.Develops and implements internal legal policies and best practices to enhance operational efficiencyWorks to develop fluency in legal concepts impacting the work performedThe Salary below is being provided to promote pay transparency and equal employment opportunities at Walgreens.
