Pediatric Dietitian I

Position Summary The Pediatric Dietitian I (PD I) provides evidence-based nutrition care to patients/families using practice skills which satisfy the needs/concerns of assigned patients. The PD I can formulate and implement an individualized nutrition care plan using current medical nutrition therapy (MNT). The PD I contributes to nutrition care decisions that lead to positive outcomes and is an effective educator. The PD I addresses routine problems in the work environment by providing assistance or referring these to other, more experienced team members. The PD I prioritizes workload, delivers nutrition care to assigned patients, and discusses/assists/advocates for the nutritional care needs of the patient/family. This position receives oversight by the Manager, Clinical Nutrition Services. Ability to manage daily workload, identify routine problems in the work area and solve problems with advice/assistance from others is required. Position Duties Provides nutrition care to assigned patients/families with general pediatric nutritional conditions/disorders, ages and developmental stages. Contributes to decisions by using critical thinking and problem solving skills. Assesses nutritional needs, develops and implements an effective MNT plan of care, recommends and implements interventions, and monitors outcomes for patients timely. Follows Phoenix Children’s standards of care and evidence-based practice guidelines. Integrates nutrition plan with the patient’s total health care needs including psychosocial, ethnic, cultural and religious needs. Selects appropriate feeding modality and accurately calculates nutritional needs. Adjusts the nutrition plan according to findings in a timely manner. Assumes a proactive role in patient/family education and satisfaction. Conducts nutrition education using preferred learning styles, techniques, tools and materials to enhance learning and behavior modification. Interacts with patients and families compassionately and respectfully. Seeks assistance from experienced team members when needed. Documents nutrition care plans and recommendations accurately, concisely, and adheres to documentation policies and standards. Ensures timely availability of information for the interdisciplinary care plan. Participates in teaching/patient rounds for assigned patients. Shares information to support decision making and meets patient care goals. Serves the hospital, community and other health care organizations as a resource for nutrition related information. Provides education to the interdisciplinary team and community upon request. Participates in projects that promote health and well-being of patients, staff and community. Demonstrates understanding of quality and performance improvement principles. Supports change that improves care, treatment and services. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree and supervised practice experience that meets the requirements for registered dietitian status of the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Experience: • Experience in a health care, preferably hospital, environment using current MNT to provide care to general hospitalized patients including parenteral and enteral formulas, GI disorders, cardiac, diabetes, renal, pulmonary, and/or weight management/growth concerns. • Pediatric experience (preferred). Special Skills: • Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills (required). • Flexibility in scheduled days and hours with participation in On-Call/Weekend rotation (required). • Bilingual Spanish skills (preferred). Additional Requirement: Eligible to obtain a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D. or R.D.N.) credential recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics prior to start date (required). Physical Requirements & Occupational Exposure/Risk Potential: Physical requirements include climbing, sensing textures, fine motor skills, hearing, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping/crouching/kneeling/crawling, talking, tasting/smelling, walking, near vision, far vision, color discrimination, use of keyboard and lifting up to 35 pounds.
