Work Location: Endocrinology at Holly Springs Start your healthcare career with paid hands‑on training through UNC Health’s Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program (MAAP)! This full‑time, 12‑month program combines up to 2,000 hours of on‑the‑job training with 144 hours of online coursework to prepare participants for a career as a Certified Medical Assistant. Apprentices will progress through three learning phases — Administrative Apprentice I, Basic Clinical Apprentice II, and Intermediate Clinical Apprentice III — while working in an outpatient clinic setting. Upon successful completion, participants are eligible to take the NHA Medical Assistant Certification Exam and, once certified, may apply for a permanent Medical Assistant I, Certified position within UNC Health. Eligibility Requirements Access to computer and internet for online coursework Commitment to completing the 12‑month program and obtaining certification Intent to work at UNC Health as a Certified Medical Assistant for at least two years after completion Program Overview Paid, full‑time apprenticeship with online and clinical training No prior healthcare experience required Structured mentorship and professional development Certification exam preparation and career placement support Additional Requirements Education: None required as long as other position requirements are met. Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of employment. Professional experience: Health care experience preferred but not required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform essential functions. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage positively with patients and families and work as a team with staff and providers. Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
