Personal Trainer

The Personal Trainer is responsible for designing and delivering safe, effective, and engaging individual and group training sessions for clients of various age groups and fitness levels. This position requires a highly motivated, professional, and certified fitness professional who is dedicated to helping clients achieve their personal health and wellness goals.

The Personal Trainer is a part-time position (maximum of twenty-nine [29] hours per week). Work is performed in an alert and attentive manner and must remain consistent with established standards of the Park District. The work pace varies depending on client needs and program demand. The Personal Trainer may occasionally be required to lift equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Current certification from a nationally accredited organization such as the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is required.
  • A current CPR/AED certification is required prior to starting employment.
  • Previous personal training experience is strongly preferred, with demonstrated success in individual and group fitness settings.
  • Must demonstrate a strong understanding of exercise science, proper technique, and client safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Must possess extensive scheduling availability, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to accommodate a diverse client base.
Immediate Supervisor

The Personal Trainer reports directly to the Performance Supervisor. The Trainer is responsible for conducting training sessions tailored to the needs, abilities, and goals of each client, whether youth or adult.

Essential Functions
  • Design, implement, and instruct safe and effective personal and small-group training programs for clients of all fitness levels.
  • Prepare customized lesson plans or workout programs for each client.
  • Set up, inspect, and maintain proper equipment for all training sessions.
  • Ensure all client sessions and records are documented and submitted to the Director of Human Performance as required.
  • Demonstrate and teach proper exercise techniques to promote client safety and performance improvement.
  • Attend continuing education workshops, in-service training, or certifications to maintain professional knowledge and skills.
  • Supervise and monitor clients in the fitness areas to ensure a safe and supportive training environment.
  • Uphold all Park District policies and procedures as outlined in policy and safety manuals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Human Performance.
Marginal Functions
  • Assist with basic facility maintenance and equipment upkeep as needed.
  • Provide support to other Park District staff as necessary.
Psychological Considerations

The Personal Trainer may experience stress related to responsibility for client progress, scheduling flexibility, and maintaining client motivation. The Trainer must demonstrate professionalism, patience, and effective problem-solving skills to address client needs and resolve issues.

Environmental Considerations

Work is performed primarily indoors in controlled fitness environments with typical lighting, temperature, and noise levels.

Cognitive Considerations

The Personal Trainer must be able to follow direction, make sound judgments regarding client safety, and exhibit strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Recommendations for Accommodations

1. Employees are encouraged to use mechanical or team assistance for lifting or moving items over fifty (50) lbs.

2. Additional accommodations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation
  • The starting wage for this position is $18.00/hour.
