About the Role:

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of welded structures and components across various industries within the United States. This position involves conducting thorough inspections and evaluations of welding processes, materials, and finished welds to verify compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. The CWI collaborates closely with engineers, fabricators, and project managers to identify potential defects and recommend corrective actions, thereby preventing structural failures and ensuring long-term durability. By maintaining detailed inspection records and reports, the CWI supports quality assurance programs and regulatory compliance efforts. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the integrity and reliability of infrastructure, machinery, and equipment that rely on welded assemblies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and applicable codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX).
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and inspection reports.
• Ability to perform non-destructive testing methods such as visual inspection, magnetic particle testing, and ultrasonic testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional certifications such as Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI) or NDT certifications (e.g., Level II or III in UT, MT, PT).
• Experience working in diverse industries such as oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, or aerospace.
• Familiarity with digital inspection tools and software for reporting and data management.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental standards related to welding operations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections on welds to assess quality and adherence to industry standards such as AWS, ASME, and API.
• Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material certifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and codes.
• Document inspection results, prepare detailed reports, and communicate findings to project stakeholders, recommending corrective measures when necessary.
• Collaborate with fabrication teams to monitor welding activities, provide technical guidance, and ensure adherence to safety and quality protocols.
• Stay current with industry developments, standards, and best practices to continuously improve inspection techniques and maintain certification.
