Job Title: Clinical Nurse (RN) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum three years of acute care experience required. License: California RN License Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: ICU experience Description: The Clinical Nurse (RN) has the responsibility, accountability, and authority to deliver safe, effective nursing care. The RN utilizes the principles of Relationship Based Care in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for all patients. The RN makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward goals. Utilizing a therapeutic professional relationship, the RN facilitates the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. Care is provided according to the specific physiological, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the patient. The RN supports the mission, vision, values, and expectations of excellence of the organization. Competency is demonstrated through consistent application of scientific knowledge from social, biological, and physical sciences. The RN provides care that aligns with the interdisciplinary plan of care. Assessment of the patient's physical and psychosocial condition is ongoing. The RN formulates nursing diagnoses through observation and information interpretation. A collaborative care plan is created to ensure the safety, comfort, hygiene, and protection of the client. Essential nursing skills are performed, and health treatments are explained to the patient and family. Teaching clients and families about health needs is a key responsibility. The effectiveness of the care plan is evaluated through observation and communication with the health team. The RN modifies the plan as needed based on patient responses and progress. A current working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and medications is essential. Tasks can be delegated to care team members based on their legal scopes of practice. The RN supervises the nursing care provided by the care team. As client advocates, the RN initiates actions to improve healthcare outcomes. Culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care is provided within legal standards. Coordination of patient care activities with healthcare team members is a key role. Effective communication skills are utilized to facilitate safe patient handoffs. Documentation of nursing care aligns with hospital policies. Manual and automated information systems are employed to improve efficiency. The RN is accountable for meeting or exceeding unit and organizational goals. Contributions to positive patient care experiences are made through individual interactions. Resolution of complaints is addressed with the goal of immediate resolution. Investigation of complaints from physicians, employees, and patients is performed. Proficient written, verbal, and electronic communication skills are required. Physical duties of the job include lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and fine motor skills. Completion of annual organizational requirements for employment is mandatory.
