Robert Half is conducting a confidential search for an experienced Assistant Controller on behalf of a well-established organization. This is a highly visible role for a hands-on accounting leader with deep expertise in general ledger management, month-end close, financial statement preparation, cost accounting, inventory accounting oversight, and accounting process improvement . The ideal candidate will come from a privately held or private equity-owned manufacturing or distribution company with $150 - 900mm in revenue and bring a strong mix of technical accounting knowledge, operational accounting experience, and a continuous improvement mindset. This individual will play an important role in helping the accounting function scale, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance efficiency through better processes and automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Oversee general ledger activity , including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and maintenance of accounting records.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and related supporting schedules.
• Provide oversight of cost accounting and inventory accounting processes, including inventory reconciliations, valuation, reserves, and reporting support.
• Identify and drive process improvement initiatives across the accounting function to increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce manual work.
• Partner with leadership to help evaluate and implement automation opportunities within close, reporting, reconciliations, and other core accounting workflows.
• Assist in developing and refining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support a growing organization.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and finance leadership to improve financial visibility and support business decision-making.
• Support external audits, tax requests, and ad hoc analyses as needed.

Qualifications

• CPA and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field are required
• Progressive accounting experience with recent experience in an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Manager, or similar role . .
• Must come from a privately held or private equity-backed manufacturing or distribution company .
• Strong background in general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation .
• Exposure to cost accounting and inventory accounting in a product-based environment is required
• Demonstrated success leading or supporting process improvement, systems enhancements, and/or accounting automation initiatives .
• Strong ERP systems experience and advanced Excel skills preferred.
• Ability to work both strategically and hands-on in a fast-paced environment.
