Assistant Cross Country/Track Distance Coach - Part-time

The part-time assistant distance coach provides instruction and leadership to student-athletes under the direction of the head coach. The part-time assistant coach is primarily responsible for teaching proper techniques and skill development in the area of distance running. Position responsibilities include planning and executing instructional practice sessions, facilitating discipline‑specific lessons and attending meets. Other responsibilities may include monitoring academic progress of student athletes, recruitment of student athletes and other athletic support functions. JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS Planning and conducting practices for athletes competing in the distance events Evaluation and recruitment of qualified prospective student athletes Ability to work weekdays and weekends as needed Design planning, supervising and executing specific training plans for Cross Country and Track and Field distance team Assist with driving vehicles to and from competition sites Assist with fund‑raising projects for track and field team and the department Assist with maintaining accurate records of expenses incurred while working within the provided budget Assist with maintaining daily and yearly inventory of equipment, uniforms and supplies Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & PRINCIPLES Bachelor’s Degree required Knowledge of techniques and workouts for distance events (certifications preferred) Ability to communicate with team and coaches in distinct and effective methods Ability to drive team vans to necessary sites. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES A bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required; One year of college level athletic coaching is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires the ability to stand for an extended period of time. The ability to lift 20-30 pounds. The ability to travel long distances via automobile and/or airplane. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
