AFMW - CNC Programmer Manufacturing Engineer

Job Type: Full‑time Shift: 1st Shift Location: Ashland, PA The Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Programmer is responsible for supporting production operations, developing CNC programs, ensuring safety, supporting production performance, quality, housekeeping, budget attainment, and maintaining good employee relations. The position requires coordinating and managing multiple projects simultaneously and understanding the impact of changes within the manufacturing system.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position does not provide direct supervision to employees; however, it may provide indirect supervision to Machine Shop employees. Essential Functions of the Position Create and provide CNC programs for the shop floor. Maintain all existing programs, databases, routings, and drawings to be current. Set up and maintain computer manufacturing and production machines. Program precision computer equipment per job specifications. Read schematics, blueprints, and other documentation. Write and maintain inspection and programming logs and manuals. Quote all new machined products including special tooling, gauging, and fixtures, striving for twenty‑four‑hour responsiveness. Coordinate all DCA information, create part routings, and maintain systems for all items processed in the Machine Shop and Foundry. Enter all purchased complete items and add all part numbers requiring QA. Create models in CREO and MasterCam for all parts requiring manufacturing toolpaths. Correspond with customers’ engineering groups regarding part geometry, CAD data (including STEP files, etc.). Develop and document all new equipment processes and standards. Communicate project status and progress on a timely basis. Evaluate and assist in implementing cost‑cutting, productivity, and efficiency methods. Direct, lead, and execute strategies to meet or exceed financial and operational targets. Carry out directives of the Vice President of Operations in a professional manner. Contribute to monthly safety, delivery, quality, production, inventory, and financial metrics. Prioritize projects and coordinate activities with other shifts and departments. Align with established operating policies consistent with Ashland Foundry & Machine Works LLC's vision and mission. Create safety awareness by observing, auditing, and coaching safe work behaviors. Ensure compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations. Ensure proper execution of policies and procedures within areas of responsibility. Maintain reliable attendance. Support operations by filling in for production supervisors when necessary. Perform all other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to edit, interpret, and program G‑code efficiently. Analyze job orders, drawings, and design data to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for precision technical plans. Monitor gauges and indicators to ensure machine functionality. Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce practical solutions. Communicate information effectively in speaking and writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, senior managers, and employees. Operate a personal computer; use spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and graphics programs. Read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently for job duties. Possess understanding of plant equipment and production processes. Practice active listening and coordination skills. Apply critical thinking in problem‑solving. Manage employee resources by motivating and directing personnel. Education and Experience Associate degree or higher, or High school diploma/GED with three (3) years experience as a CNC machinist, or Equivalent combination of education and experience. PLC programming preferred. Mastercam experience a plus. Fanuc (NC) Control, Mazak (EIA) experience, ability to make hand edits and manually code are preferred. Eligibility Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen (required under federal contract with the U.S. Department of Justice). Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This role does not support visa sponsorship. Language Skills Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees. Ability to manage delinquent suppliers and negotiate effectively. Tools and Equipment Telephone, personal computer, calculator, fax machine, and copy machine. Duties require frequent walking, sitting, talking, using hands to handle tools, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Walking or standing may be required for up to 12 hours. Work Environment Employees work in an office environment and are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is usually moderate and can be loud. Temperature may be cold in winter and hot in summer. Employees are required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
