Bankruptcy & Restructuring Paralegal Requirements & Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of direct bankruptcy paralegal experience.
  • Experience supporting both personal/consumer and commercial bankruptcy matters.
  • Familiarity with Chapters 7, 11, and 13 bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Hands-on experience preparing bankruptcy petitions, schedules, proofs of claim, motions, and court filings.
  • Knowledge of federal and bankruptcy court procedures and electronic filing systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple active matters and deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Bankruptcy & Restructuring Paralegal Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience with Chapter 11 bankruptcy and restructuring.
  • Background in creditor representation or commercial bankruptcy.
  • Familiarity with distressed real estate, workouts, or financial restructuring.
  • Previous work at bankruptcy, commercial litigation, or mid-sized law firms.

Bankruptcy & Restructuring Paralegal Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys on a variety of personal and commercial bankruptcy matters.
  • Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions, schedules, proofs of claim, motions, and related documents.
  • Maintain case calendars and carefully track hearings, filing deadlines, and court requirements.
  • Coordinate document collection, discovery, exhibits, and production.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, trustees, creditors, and opposing counsel.
  • Maintain organized electronic files and records for all bankruptcy cases.
  • Assist with commercial litigation and distressed real estate matters as needed.
