Registered Nurse - Perioperative - HPW - Part-time - Day

Position Overview Delivers quality care to patients through a team effort in the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Ensures patient safety by executing appropriate policies and procedures. Provides support for pain management, pharmacological and non‑pharmacological measures. Assists patients and families in identifying individualized comfort measures. Follows up on internal resources to determine outcomes of interventions completed by other departments. Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patient control and participation in recovery. Provides information and interpretation of the patient’s condition and offers coping mechanisms to patients and families. Assesses how much information a patient wants and needs while using a vocabulary and approach that enables successful processing of care and treatment. Formulates and documents a discharge plan that maximizes the patient’s ability to continue meaningful life activities. Integrates assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to foresee potential age‑specific healthcare needs. Anticipates patient needs and ensures handoff communication, including a report of potential complications. Proactively identifies issues related to patient education for medication management. Provides discharge planning with instructions on discharge medications. Uses discretionary judgment to modify patient care regimens appropriately. Facilitates appropriate responses from other health‑care team members to provide quality and safe care. Explores multiple aspects of care regimens with case managers and health‑care providers to promote appropriate resolution. Demonstrates ability to see the entire unit and develops staffing pattern plans as needed. Attends educational sessions such as charge nurse workshops, leadership training, critical decision making, and prioritization of workload. Plans and provides unique and individualized comfort measures using evidence‑based practice. Participates in unit‑based and/or hospital‑based committees. Engages in performance improvement activities at the unit and/or hospital level. Actively prepares for Joint Commission readiness. Supports unit‑level efforts to achieve successful patient satisfaction scores and awareness of HCAAPS measurements. Performs any other related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Requirements Education: Associate’s degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Experience: None required; prior nursing experience preferred. Credentials: AHA BLS – Healthcare Provider; Registered Nurse – NJ. Specialty Certifications (if assigned to specific units): TNCC (or obtain within 1 year of hire). NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or obtain by end of orientation). ACLS (or obtain within 6 months of hire) for units such as Critical Care, Emergency Rooms, etc. NRP (or obtain within 6 months of hire) for Maternity Services, Emergency Rooms, etc. PALS or ENPC accepted in lieu of PALs for Adult Emergency Room. Knowledge and Skills Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. High interpersonal skills at individual and team levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adjust quickly and react positively to change. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and current trends. Good work ethic. Special Training Demonstrates knowledge of nursing skills, hospital practices, procedures, and standards. Physical Demands and Work Environment Frequent physical demands include pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching forward and overhead, squatting/kneeling/crawling, wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities, keyboard use/repetitive motion, and taste or smell. Occasional demands include sitting and climbing, such as stairs or ladders. Continuous demands include standing, walking, carrying objects, talking or hearing, and lifting floor to waist up to 25 lbs. Sensory requirements include accurate 20/40 vision (near and far), color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and accurate hearing. Occupational exposure risks include bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable disease, and dust/particulate matter.
