The Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing editorial support to the Associate Publisher. Center Street is a leading publisher of conservative voices in nonfiction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports the Center Street Associate Publisher on new book acquisitions and current book projects. Project manages titles through production, working closely with authors, literary agents, managing ed, production and other internal teams—including marketing, sales, art, audio, royalties, and rights to keep projects on track. Reads and evaluates proposals submitted for acquisition consideration. Prepares pre-acquisition materials, including profit-and-loss statements and memos. Creates and manages title data in our internal content management system, including for deal memos, contracts, and fact sheets. Attends, participates in, and organizes regular editorial, marketing, sales-related and other meetings. Writes descriptive copy for books and fact sheets. Serves as the primary point of contact for certain division-related duties, which could include managing incoming requests relating to reversions, inventory, metadata or other areas. Performs administrative duties, including: responding to messages on behalf of the Associate Publisher, organizing meetings for and distributing materials to the larger division, sending and managing mail, making photocopies, etc. Goal of independently editing a select manuscript within the first 9-12 months. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Demonstrated passion for publishing conservative nonfiction. Interest in books on faith, business leadership, inspiration and military a plus. Committed to free expression and publishing books for all audiences. Must demonstrate ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work and attention to detail in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Minimum of 1 year of publishing experience preferred (internships ok) or other editorial work experience, including journalism. Astute reader and evaluator of potential projects for publication. Excellent writing and editorial skills. Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, databases and ability to work in internal content management system. Polished communication skills (verbal & written) & interpersonal skills. Very collegial and responsive to messages, especially with colleagues, authors and agents who work in other locations across the country. Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow up and follow through. The compensation range for this position is $52,500 (NYC location), $48,300 (Washington, D.C. location), or $41,500 (Nashville location). There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
