JOB OPPORTUNITY #: 12-033 DEPUTY SHERIFF SHERIFF & ADULT DETENTION Posted: 03/25/26 Introduction The Boone County Sheriff's Office, located in Columbia, MO, is looking for a Deputy Sheriff. The Boone County Sheriff's Office is a top tier law enforcement organization. We are one of only a few Sheriff's Offices in Missouri that have achieved two national accreditations from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for law enforcement operations and from the National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) for jail operations. The staff at the Sheriff's Office are dedicated to serving their community with the highest degree of professionalism and to serving the training needs of our law enforcement partners. We have been providing training to other law enforcement agencies since 2015 to help with the professional development of partners. As part of our commitment to high quality training, we took over operations of the local law enforcement training academy in 2024 and received funding to develop a new Regional Training Center. That new facility is now open! The Sheriff's Office is committed to supporting its staff, and as part of that commitment we are developing a childcare center for employees, anticipated to open in 2026 and operate 18 hours a day to support staff that work overnight hours. Responsibilities Maintain law and order and serve legal process of the courts by processing citizen complaints. Document and write reports on law violations. Transport prisoners. Serve civil process. Perform overall general law enforcement duties in the County. Working hours: 10-hour shifts from 6am to 4pm, or 2pm to 12am, or 9pm to 7am. Shifts include working some weekends and holidays. Must be able to work any shift at the department's discretion. Location: Columbia, Missouri Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Applicant must be 21 years of age or older. No felony convictions. Must possess a valid class A or B Missouri Peace Officer License or be currently enrolled in a police academy. Must pass a medical examination, psychological assessment, a pre‑employment drug screen, and an FBI fingerprint background check. Must meet additional minimum qualifications as stated in the current job description, which can be found at: Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $29.08/hour. Shift differential of $1.50 or $2.00 per hour for shifts that start after 6pm weekdays, all shifts on weekends, and all shifts on county holidays. Additional Forms Required: Applicant must submit a signed Authorization to Release Information and submit a Military Release (Sheriff's Office).
