Senior Java DeveloperClient: State of Michigan – Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) Location: Lansing, MI Job Type: Contract Contract Duration: 1+ Year / Long-Term Work Model: Hybrid – 2 Days Onsite per Week Relocation: Open to candidates willing and able to relocate to Lansing within 10 days of offer, at their own expense Employment Type: W2 Preferred; C2C Allowed Work Authorization: USC and GC Preferred C2C Rate: Around $65/hr on C2CPosition SummaryThe State of Michigan – Department of Health & Human Services is seeking a Senior Java Developer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and SQL.The Application Development Associate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, enhancing, and supporting new and existing software applications, including applications supporting Child Support programs.The developer will work closely with Application Architects, Business Analysts, and other technical team members to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality solutions aligned with business requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and enhance new and existing software applications and modules.Develop scalable and maintainable applications using Java and Spring Boot.Develop and maintain responsive, single-page web applications using Angular.Design and develop RESTful APIs and backend services.Write efficient SQL queries for data manipulation, reporting, and application requirements.Provide production support, including troubleshooting, issue analysis, bug fixes, testing, and deployments.Collaborate with Application Architects and Business Analysts to validate functional and technical designs.Analyze requirements, application code, and test results to ensure solutions meet specifications and quality standards.Prepare and maintain technical documentation.Participate in design and code reviews.Contribute to continuous improvement of coding practices, application performance, and development processes.Apply sound technical, industry, and domain knowledge throughout the development lifecycle.Required Qualifications5+ years of Java development experience Strong object-oriented programming skills.Experience with Java-based enterprise application development.5+ years of Spring Boot Strong experience building scalable applications.Experience developing RESTful APIs.5+ years of Angular Experience developing responsive, single-page web applications.5+ years of SQL Strong SQL query-writing skills.Experience with relational database systems.Ability to perform data manipulation and reporting.Preferred QualificationsExperience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.Experience with Git and CI/CD tools.Understanding of secure coding practices.Experience with application performance tuning and optimization.Previous experience supporting Child Support applications, programs, or initiatives.Experience working with government or public-sector applications is a plus.Location & Relocation RequirementsLocal Lansing, MI candidates are strongly preferred.Candidates outside the Lansing area may be considered if they are: Willing to relocate to Lansing from Day One.Able to relocate within 10 days of receiving an offer.Willing to cover their own relocation expenses.The position requires 2 days onsite per week.Interview ProcessInterviews are expected to be primarily virtual.Typically, 1–2 interview rounds.Interviews may include a combination of technical and soft-skill questions.Candidates should be prepared to join the interview from a laptop and share their screen if requested.If the client has concerns about a candidate, an onsite interview may be requested when feasible.Candidates relocating to Michigan can complete the interview process virtually.Additional InformationAssignment is projected to be 1+ year, dependent on business needs.An ID/location verification tool may be used to verify candidate identity and location prior to submission.W2 is preferred, but C2C is acceptable.USC and GC candidates are preferred.BenefitsContractors through Smith Johnson may be eligible for:Medical insuranceDental insuranceLife insuranceDisability insurancePTO/Holiday accrual3% retirement matching plan
