This position evaluates, plans, and delivers educational efforts that support accurate and timely vital event reporting across the state. It strengthens public health outcomes by guiding professionals and community partners in proper procedures and strong reporting practices. As a Public Health Educator 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Education Delivery: Provide statewide instruction on vital events topics to medical auditors, taxonomy specialists, funeral directors, hospitals, and midwives
- Community Engagement: Work with local organizations and representatives to support timely filing and improve reporting compliance
- Trend Evaluation: Review vital event request rejection and suspension trends in citizen submissions and identify strategies to reduce failed reporting while maintaining registry integrity
- Training Development: Create and provide presentations, workshops, and online programs related to vital event registration and data accuracy
- Material Creation: Produce pamphlets, guides, infographics, checklists, and other tools that support accurate vital event reporting and strengthen registry integrity
- Administrative Support: Provide assistance to the Director of Statistical Registries by supporting quality assurance initiatives; helping adopt recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), and National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS); and preparing for vital events accreditation
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- This position does require some travel.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. You may be required to work onsite as dictated by operational and training needs. This position will have a minimum of 2 weeks of mandatory, on-site training. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Public Health Educator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of professional public health education experience and a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credits in public health, public health education, health education, community health, health science, epidemiology, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 24 credits in public health, public health education, health education, community health, health science, epidemiology, or a related field.
