Lab Technician

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Perform routine quality and food safety testing of in-process and finished product of mill
• Coordinate sampling to external laboratories
• Generate the customer Certificate of Analysis
• Maintain laboratory equipment including preventative maintenance and adhering to calibration schedules
• Participate in check sample programs
• Maintain chemical storage and inventory log
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and other initiatives in the laboratory
• Support testing for crop surveys and research samples
• Assist the elevator division in evaluation of inbound grain (pertains to Frankenmuth Mill location)
• Actively participate in HACCP and safety teams
• Maintain a clean laboratory
• Maintain records of data generated
• Maintain record of customer specifications
• Actively participate in workplace safety and food safety training
• Responsibility to comply with all food safety and work place safety policies
• Responsibility to report any issues involving food safety, sanitation, and out of specification results
• Responsibility to report any observed unusual activity regarding site security
• Complete special projects and other duties as assigned
• Support Food Safety Management System (FSMS) through documentation, record keeping, and data entry

Minimum Requirements

• Associate’s degree or higher, preferred - High school diploma or equivalent required
• Willingness to work all shifts and weekends when required
• General working knowledge of Microsoft programs
• Strong oral and written communication skills; requires telephone conversations and face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams
• Problem-solving skills

• Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls
• Ability to walk, climb, bend and reach overhead frequently
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work safely from a ladder frequently
• Ability to safely handle cleaning equipment and chemicals
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds on occasion

• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

• Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable; Noise level is moderate
