Job Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for executing the plasmapheresis process by performing venipunctures. Responsibilities Ensure total operation is compliant with state and federal regulations (FDA, OSHA, CLIA, GMP). Maintain high level of customer service and positive donor experience in line with company values and culture. Maintain cleanliness of work area to ensure a clean and professional environment. Review and confirm donor identification and maintain donor confidentiality per Standard Operating Procedures. Set up and prepare all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedure. Label and ensure each unit and sample are labeled accurately. Execute venipunctures and plasma collection, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Operate the automated plasmapheresis machines, including response and evaluation of all machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, and document exceptions. Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and the quality of plasma product. Maintain proper ratio to ensure donor safety and product quality. Disconnect donor and manage disposal of biohazard waste and contaminated equipment in accordance with safety protocols, cleaning spills, and disposing of biohazardous waste. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis machines and remove or replace equipment from service if needed. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of necessary records, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs. Report all unsafe situations and conditions to management. Maintain and stock adequate inventory and replenish supplies on plasma carts. Drive training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance. Responsible for troubleshooting machine alarms/alerts and perform QCs routinely on equipment. Perform other job-related tasks as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Any specific certification or licensing based on State requirements. Minimum three months experience in a medical or health care environment or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Completed documentation of training appropriate for duties prior to performing duties independently. Strong customer service skills required. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocol required. Basic computer knowledge and skills required. Ability to make accurate and complete documentation. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals required. Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, flexibility with assigned schedule) required. Ability to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts frequently required. Ability to perform venipuncture required. Effective communication skills required. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to 35 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel. Ability to utilize all required PPE. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens. Ability to view video display terminal less than 18 inches away from face for extended periods. Ability to work up to four hours at a time. Ability to enter an environment with a temperature of -40°C according to Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests. Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication. Individual base pay within this range is determined by qualifications, skill level, experience, competencies, and other relevant factors.
