Temporary Special Education Assistant I (SEA I) - 1:1 7 hours/day for 186 days $20.75 - $28.47/hour (depending on experience) Lakeridge High School Position Type: Student Services Date Posted: 7/9/2026 Location: Lakeridge High School Date Available: 09/02/2026 Closing Date: 07/18/2026 Job Summary The Special Education Assistant I position provides educational and classroom assistance under the guidance of teachers, principals, vice principals and other supervisors. The role supports instructional activities, promotes student safety, and reinforces classroom programs. The assistant is responsible for supervising and instructing students with special needs, observing and documenting progress, implementing instructional plans, and assisting students with health needs. Duties are performed under risk of infection and injury and require work with students having learning, developmental and behavioral needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Confers with teachers, supervisors and colleagues to plan day‑to‑day routines, special projects, and student‑specific health care. Performs program‑related instructional, behavioral and other activities for students with IEPs and related plans. Undertakes delegated instructional tasks for individuals and small groups; assists with classroom assignments and monitors student activities. Prepares worksheets, organizes materials, creates bulletin boards, collects data and monitors progress. Implements classroom, small‑group and individual social and behavioral management interventions. Manages personal student information according to federal and state laws and maintains confidentiality. Maintains orderly instructional area, cleans supplies, sets up study areas, and ensures a tidy environment. Performs routine clerical work such as typing, photocopying, filing, record‑keeping and answering telephones. Supervises building and classroom activities including field trips, playground, lunch, hall, bus duty and on‑bus supervision. Assists with PE and other recreational activities. Implements crisis prevention/intervention strategies, including de‑escalating procedures and physical interventions when necessary. Assists teachers in testing and assessment of student skills; records accurate data. Provides student health care and mobility assistance such as lifting, feeding, toileting/diapering. Communicates with school personnel, community agencies and parents/guardians. Performs physical therapy or medical assistance as directed by a healthcare professional. Attends workshops and staff development to stay current on procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of district policies and procedures. Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance. Non‑essential Duties and Responsibilities Operates and troubleshoots office equipment. Moves classroom furniture and equipment. Attends in‑service training, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards and other issues to the principal. Other Requirements Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and district policies. Observes ergonomics for sedentary office work. Practices proper lifting techniques to avoid accidents. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED required; Associate Degree or two years of college preferred. Interpersonal: Works well with diverse backgrounds, resolves conflicts, maintains confidentiality, remains calm, and contributes to a positive team environment. Language Skills: Fluent in English, writes clearly, responds to inquiries, reads regulations, prepares accurate reports. Mathematical Skills: Performs arithmetic, calculates rates and proportions, interprets bar graphs. Computer Skills: Uses office computers, email, research, word processing, database manipulation and Office 365 applications. Other Skills and Abilities: Exercises good judgment and works effectively in a dynamic environment. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid First Aid Card required; must obtain certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by law and district, including a valid Oregon driver’s license. Physical Expectations Regularly required to talk, see, and hear. Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands, reach, and move inside and outside buildings. Occasionally required to push, pull, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, and crouch. Must lift up to 35 lbs and occasionally more than 100 lbs. Must utilize de‑escalation procedures and, when needed, move quickly to keep students safe. Must lift students up to 35 lbs and assist in lifting students weighing up to 150 lbs. Special Requirements The selected person must provide proof of educational requirements, verify identity and employment authorization, complete a pre‑employment record check, and be approved by the State Department of Education after a fingerprint‑based criminal history verification.
