Director Accounting

SUMMARY:The Director of Accounting directs and manages day-to-day accounting processes including General Ledger, PP&E. Oversees the timely and accurate reporting of financial information and supports annual internal and external audits and related compliance activities. Participates in other aspects of Accounting and Finance processes as required, including supporting the Controller.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:· Directs and oversees the General Ledger function, including day-to-day accounting operations, account maintenance, journal entry processes, and compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.· Oversees the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting.· Ensures the integrity of the chart of accounts and related financial structures, including appropriate account setup, maintenance, classification, and use across the organization.· Reviews and approves journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and other General Ledger activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and organizational standards.· Establishes, monitors, and improves General Ledger processes, controls, and workflows to support accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.· Oversees balance sheet reconciliation processes, including timely completion, review, follow-up, and resolution of reconciling items.· Oversees accounting for property, plant, and equipment, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and related policy compliance.· Supports the preparation and review of internal and external financial statements, management reports, and other financial reporting deliverables.· Analyzes financial results, operating trends, and budget-to-actual variances; identifies issues, explains drivers, and supports remediation plans as needed.· Supports internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules, review of supporting documentation, and timely response to audit requests.· Partners with Finance, Operations, and other departments to resolve accounting issues, improve processes, and support accurate financial reporting.· Supports the Controller in planning, prioritizing, and managing accounting activities, financial controls, cost containment initiatives, and institutional financial stewardship.· Facilitates or participates in finance-related committees, including FTE and PP&E committees, as assigned.· Manages accounting staff, including hiring, training, coaching, assigning work, evaluating performance, and addressing performance issues as appropriate.· Develops staff through coaching, mentoring, and process education to promote technical growth, accountability, and independence.· Identifies financial reporting risks, process gaps, and control deficiencies; develops and implements corrective actions or contingency plans as appropriate.· Supports accounting for acquisitions, affiliations, and other organizational transactions, including due diligence support, opening balance sheet review, purchase accounting considerations, integration of acquired entities into the general ledger, and alignment with organizational accounting policies and GAAP.· Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.· Performs related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.EXPERIENCE: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, including five (5) years of supervisory or management experience. Hospital system experience preferred.LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None Required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:· Advanced proficiency in Excel and related financial analysis tools.· Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting requirements, and the preparation and review of financial statements.· Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to analyze, organize, and present complex financial data.· Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.· Ability to research, analyze, and resolve complex accounting and financial reporting issues in accordance with GAAP and organizational policy.· Demonstrated accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
