Operations Manager I, II, III

Job Summary Operations Manager I, II, III responsible for effective planning, execution and supervision of terminal operations workforce. This includes ensuring efficient, safe, and productive operations for customers, terminal area and cargo type. The role also develops and achieves operational and financial goals and objectives, and develops management peers. Quick Facts Compensation: $80,000 to $122,000, depending on experience in marine terminal operations Working hours: Full-time, salary, on-site Reports to: Senior Manager, Operations Shifts: Day shift 6 am to 5 pm and Night Shift 4 pm to 3 am. Typically scheduled four shifts a week depending on business need. Must be able to work both shifts and any day of the week. Industry: Marine Terminal Container Operations Job Functions: Operations Essential Duties and Responsibilities Effectively supervise and direct the work activities of labor, foremen and other personnel to meet performance expectations and customer needs. Develop short‑range business plans designed to achieve company goals and objectives while operating within approved fiscal budget. Determine the labor needed each day and ensure labor is ordered appropriately for the assigned department. Make decisions affecting overtime cost and general expenditures ensuring they are in the best interest of the company and customers. Determine additional staffing/labor needs and contact union hall in advance for cost‑effective staffing and availability. Ensure payroll accuracy; make appropriate changes as needed and approve payrolls for the supervised shift. Identify areas of cost reduction and lead and support improvement initiatives. Actively champion and manage the company’s Safety program ensuring all labor and staff comply with accident prevention, safety and workers’ compensation programs and procedures; provide input and solutions. Work closely with Maintenance & Repair/Terminal Departments to ensure equipment allocation meets operational demands. Maintain positive relations with labor and union officials and ensure Collective Bargaining Agreements are understood and followed. Counsel, discipline, and terminate foremen and supervisory clerks when necessary. Ensure union leadership enforces collective bargaining agreements and works in the best interest of the company. Advise Labor Relations team on investigative matters and assist in adjudicating complaints filed through Labor Relations committees up to arbitration. Provide regular training and feedback to labor management staff. Participate in the interviewing and selection process for steady labor and management staff. Communicate goals and performance expectations to workforce staff. Develop, communicate, maintain, and improve operating and administrative procedures to provide required information and facilitate internal practices. Ensure all company policies, procedures and controls are followed; required reports are completed accurately and submitted on time to appropriate staff, customers, and designated personnel. Position Requirements Education: High School Diploma or GED required; BS/BA in Marine Administration, Logistics and Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or equivalent managerial experience preferred. Related experience: Minimum of two (2) years in Marine Terminal Operations or closely related field. Credentials: Obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card); valid U.S. Driver’s License. Benefits Potential annual discretionary bonus up to 15% of base salary.
