Job Details Position: Histotechnologist 3 (H) Location: UTower Hospital, UHealth/University of Miami Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday Job Type: Full-Time Staff Summary The Histotechnologist 3 performs as a laboratory professional preparing tissues from surgical specimens for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. The incumbent uses laboratory and hospital systems to accession data and perform other appropriate system functions. Core Job Functions Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handle complex immunohistochemistry procedures for clinical patient diagnosis. Maintain and review quality control in assigned laboratory facilities. Determine acceptability of testing results and instrument function. Maintain equipment and place orders for reagents and materials. Maintain records of samples, including accessioning and paraffin block and slide files; follow specimen handling and processing procedures. Participate in formulation and revision of departmental policies and procedures. Provide guidance and leadership to employees within assigned section; recommend improvements of laboratory functions. Handle clinical and patient concerns confidentially, employing integrity and discretion. Identify and resolve problems with equipment and specimen integrity; examine slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements and adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding university assets. Qualifications Education Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., histology, cytotechnology). Certification and Licensing Current Florida Medical Technologist License; Histotechnologist certification. Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Department Addendum – Specimen Receiving Verify that the patient’s name on the specimen container matches the accompanying documentation. Assign and record surgical numbers accurately. Place specimens in properly labeled cassettes according to established procedures. Department Addendum – Specimen Processing Change processing solutions daily as outlined in the laboratory procedure manual. Monitor and document processing times, ensuring correct tissue processing schedules are followed. Verify and record paraffin temperature settings to maintain optimal performance.
