Wyckoff Heights Medical Center | Main Campus New York, USA Description Operations & Patient Flow Daily Workflow : Directing unit traffic to prevent bottlenecks and long wait times. Bed Management : Coordinating with the ER and ICU to ensure rapid patient placement. Resource Allocation : Assigning staff based on "patient acuity" (the severity of illness). Discharge Planning : Meeting with social workers to ensure safe, timely patient exits- with special focus on Length of Stay and documentation improvement to improve the Case Mix Index Staff Scheduling : Managing 24/7 rotations, including call-outs and holiday coverage. Conflict Resolution : Mediating disputes between medical staff or between staff and families. Skill Development : Identifying training gaps and organizing "in-service" education sessions. Performance Tracking : Setting annual goals and conducting formal reviews for nurses and techs. Quality, Safety, & Compliance Audit Readiness : Ensuring the unit is always prepared for surprise Joint Commission inspections Incident Investigation : Reviewing "near misses" or patient falls to create prevention plans. Infection Control : Monitoring strict adherence to hand-hygiene and sterile procedure protocols. Patient Experience : Reviewing HCAHPS scores and addressing patient complaints directly. Financial & Strategic Management Budget Variance : Explaining why the department went over or under budget each month. Supply Chain : Approving high-cost medical equipment orders and monitoring waste. Strategic Growth : Helping the Department Chair plan for new service lines or unit expansions. Labor Costs : Monitoring "overtime" usage and balancing the use of expensive travel nurses. Required Skills & Qualifications Education : Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration , Masters preferred Experience : Typically 3–5 years of clinical experience, often in a hospital or leadership role. Technical Proficiency : Expert knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and healthcare management software.
