Hybrid Psychologist

Job Description

Loyal Source is seeking a Hybrid Psychologist to conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) disability examinations for Veterans applying for benefits through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).


This role focuses on conducting comprehensive mental health evaluations, reviewing relevant records, documenting findings, and providing objective medical opinions related to claimed mental health conditions. Examinations may include conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma (MST), eating disorders, and other behavioral health concerns.


This is not a treatment role and instead focuses on standard outpatient evaluations. The position does not include therapy, counseling, medication management, treatment planning, or ongoing patient care.


Pay Rate : $137,924.80 - $149,924.80


Schedule : Monday - Friday, standard business hours.


Location : Vista, CA


Travel : Minimal travel may be required for training, meetings, or business needs.


Clinical Scope : Compensation & Pension mental health disability examinations. No treatment, therapy, medication management, or ongoing patient care responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Compensation & Pension (C&P) mental health examinations for Veterans in accordance with VBA program requirements.
• Evaluate claimed mental health conditions, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, military sexual trauma (MST), eating disorders, and related behavioral health concerns.
• Review medical records, supporting documentation, and examination materials to support disability evaluations.
• Prepare objective, evidence-based medical opinions related to mental health disability claims.
• Complete required examination documentation and determinations within Department of Veterans Affairs guidelines and established timelines.
• Conduct non-physician clinical reviews including comprehensive clinical reviews, diagnose conditions, and determine their etiology.
• Participate in peer consultations, staff meetings, training activities, and quality review processes.
• Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, VA requirements, and Loyal Source policies and procedures.
• Utilize electronic documentation systems and reporting platforms to manage caseload and submit completed examinations.

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology from an APA-accredited institution and program.
• Current, valid, unrestricted Psychologist license allowing full independent practice.
• Willingness and ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed to support business requirements.
• Minimum of two (2) years of post-licensure clinical experience.
• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, and web-based documentation systems.
• Ability to work independently while adhering to established clinical and operational standards.
• Must maintain a designated secure workspace and have the ability to install and utilize secure high-speed internet service (cable or DSL) for remote work.
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Authorized to work in the United States and able to maintain requirements specific to federal contractors.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations.
• Diplomate status through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
• ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ).
• Experience working in managed care environments.
• Experience performing peer reviews.
• Experience supporting Commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare lines of business.
• Familiarity with CPT and HCPCS coding.
• Clinical experience in higher levels of care, including Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).
• Clinical experience working with children and adolescents.
• Clinical experience assessing and treating substance use disorders.
• Experience utilizing evidence-based treatment approaches.
• Advanced computer skills, including experience with Excel and Access databases.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet required turnaround times.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team.

Physical and Schedule Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting and working on a computer.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Veterans, staff, and clinical stakeholders through virtual and in-person interactions.
• Ability to review medical records and complete detailed documentation for extended periods.
• Standard weekday schedule, Monday through Friday.
• Hybrid work arrangement requiring both remote and on-site responsibilities as assigned.
• Secure home office environment and reliable high-speed internet required for remote work activities.
