Interim Controller/Financial Analyst (temp to hire)

Interim Controller

Our client, a well?established organization, is seeking an Interim Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives during a transition period.


This position is primarily onsite in Menlo Park, CA, and the engagement is expected to last 3 months.



Responsibilities:

• Oversee day?to?day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and cash management
• Manage month?end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules
• Prepare and present financial reporting packages, including budget?to?actual analysis and variance reporting
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies across all financial activities
• Serve as primary liaison for audit and tax activities, coordinating with external stakeholders
• Oversee indirect tax filings and regulatory reporting requirements
• Manage fixed assets, depreciation, and capital project accounting, including capitalization decisions and tracking of ongoing projects
• Support inventory?related accounting, accruals, and variance analysis
• Perform financial modeling, forecasting, and ad hoc business analysis to support leadership decision?making
• Analyze operational and financial data to generate actionable insights
• Lead, mentor, and support accounting team members, ensuring development and strong execution
• Partner cross?functionally with operational leaders to support financial transparency and responsiveness
• Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and control enhancements
• Support financial planning, reporting improvements, and broader accounting initiatives

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
• 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership responsibilities
• Experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role preferred
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting experience
• Experience with capital projects, fixed assets, and operational accounting environments preferred
• Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills
• Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands?on
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem?solving skills
