Registered Nurse - Infusion Center

Description This position will serve to support our affiliation with Roswell Park Cancer Care. Employment Type Full time Shift Day Shift Location Located at the Main Hospital Campus on 1-1 Schedule Monday - Friday 7:30am-4pm Preferred Experience Oncology/Chemo Experience Preferred. Role Overview Plans and provides nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer‑related health care problems; treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as patient care, health teaching, and health counseling; executes medical regimens prescribed by a physician or other licensed health care provider authorized by the state of New York. Work/Life: Regular schedules to balance your work/life and school calendars. Responsibilities Administer chemotherapy agents, pre‑medications and non‑oncology infusions. Assess lab results and vital signs. Obtain vascular access via Peripheral IV, A‑port or PICC line. Patient education on discharge/post treatment. Tumor and registry entry. Patient tracking for oral chemo and Mediport maintenance. Monitor and evaluate patients throughout infusion. Complete treatment plans. Phone triage. Adheres to regulatory requirements and professional standards such as ONS. Performs nursing assessment that includes the holistic needs of each patient with consideration of physiological, psychological, social, ethnic, cultural, educational, and spiritual strengths and needs; includes the patient and family and/or support system in planning and delivery of care. Ensures that patient safety is a priority goal in delivery of healthcare. Provides direct patient care activities with other professional disciplines to ensure the nursing intervention plan aligns with the total treatment plan. Administers medications and IV fluids safely and efficiently following established policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of dosage, route, action, side effects, contraindications, and adverse reactions of medication. Provides health education/teaching for patients and their designated significant others. Confers with nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team regarding patient condition or unusual events to ensure continuity of care. Adheres to the RPCI Oncology, PC standard for Employee Conduct. Other Duties Protects patient’s privacy, confidentiality, and rights as health care consumers. Demonstrates understanding of and compliance with HIPAA regulations; determines level of access for minimum necessary requirements. Complies with and is knowledgeable of Institute and department policies/procedures and standards of care. Completes and maintains certification for the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Course. Acquires and/or maintains necessary education and skills to address competencies. Attends mandatory in‑services annually. Attends education programs relevant to patient population, new products, equipment, policies/procedures, and clinical care. Enhances professional growth through educational programs, literature, and workshops. Attends meetings as required. Career Path Career advancement to leadership roles such as team leader, preceptor, mentor, coordinator/management. Education, Training, Experience, Certification And Licensure Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York. OCN Certification preferred. Maintains current BLS/CPR certification. Participates in orientation and continuing education; updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Work Environment And Hazards Clinical setting. Exposure Class I. Physical Demands Medium work: must lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat and reach. Work Contact Group All services, medical staff, patients, visitors, and various regulatory and professional agencies. Supervised By Team Leader, Clinical Coordinator, Practice Manager, and Clinical Services/Nursing Administration. Pay Range $35.20 – $51.10 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary within the stated range based on location.
