Position Overview This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent. Position: Phlebotomist. Location: Floating position. Schedule: 6:30am-6:00pm (hours vary) Monday‑Friday, rotating Saturdays. Projected duration: 3 months with potential for permanent. Job code: CVDJP00034543. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, perform decontamination, and update patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear yet courteous manner. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness. Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples at the required temperature, placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, and accurately labeling them. Follow specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification in the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED.
