Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PACU - Post Anesthesia Care Discipline: RN Start Date: 07/27/2026 Duration: 10 weeks 40 hours per week Shift: 8 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Summary The Alexandria-based Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) position offers an opportunity to provide patient care in a fast-paced, community hospital setting. This role involves caring for inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties, including orthopedics, general surgery, vascular, plastics, and ENT. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative team environment, providing high-quality post-anesthesia recovery services. Job Details Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with 8-hour shifts starting at various times based on unit needs, typically covering from early morning to evening hours (05:30‑21:00). Certifications and Education: Active RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a multistate compact (NLC) license; BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA) required. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of PACU RN experience strongly preferred; 0 years of experience required. EMR: Epic experience preferred. Float Requirements: First to float between PreOp, ECT (preoperative/intraoperative/postoperative), and GI Endoscopy (preoperative and recovery only). On-Call: Rotating 2nd Call commitment every 6 weeks, requiring three weekday shifts and three weekend/holiday shifts with self-scheduling. Schedule and Hours: 8-hour shifts, minimum of 40 hours per week, with start times varying to meet operational needs. Patient Population: Inpatient and outpatient surgical patients, including pediatric patients aged 10 and older; trauma/critical care experience not required. Unit Details: The PACU has 13 bays (10 Phase 1 and 3 Phase 2). Nurse-to-patient ratios are 2:1 for Phase 1 and 3:1 for Phase 2. Common Cases: Total joint arthroplasty, spine, orthopedic sports medicine, general surgery, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, ECT, GI endoscopy. Holidays and Requirements: Coverage includes holidays with some days before and after; on-call shifts include day and night options. Other: Scrubs required; Epic access needed.
