Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery Internship

Job Description The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. Essential Functions Assess: Perform appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills. Seek and evaluate information from patient, family, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members. Plan: Use assessment information and critical thinking to collaboratively develop individualized plans of care, involve patient, family, team, and physicians, and prepare patients for ongoing support needs. Implement: Direct the interdisciplinary care team via delegation, coordination, and collaboration; provide or delegate care consistent with the plan of care, guidelines of care, and professional licensure provisions. Evaluate: Evaluate patient responses to interventions, revise plans as indicated, and reassess changes as appropriate. Professionalism: Promote the nursing profession, incorporate legal and ethical standards into practice, comply with regulatory standards, practice within scope of licensure, provide accurate documentation, and understand legal implications of care delivery. Required Skills Patient care delivery, nursing fundamentals, interdisciplinary teams, documentation, professional etiquette, accountability, patient care coordination, communication, patient evaluation, and critical thinking. Minimum Qualifications Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. Valid compact license transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of start of employment. RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of hire date. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. One year of inpatient acute care experience, preferably in critical care such as ICU, stepdown, telemetry, or emergency department nursing. Note: The program will not accept new graduate RNs at this time. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see, read, and assess patient information; operate monitors; identify equipment and supplies; manipulate complex and delicate equipment; frequent computer use and typing; lift and transfer patients; bend, carry, and move supplies; walk and assist with transporting patients; and stand for extended periods. For roles requiring driving, expected to drive a vehicle that requires seeing, reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. Location and Compensation Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colorado. 36 weekly hours. Hourly rate $37.17‑$56.17 depending on experience.
