Job Description This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses at UMMC who have less than 12 months of experience. Competent in the required skills/knowledge and fully participates in unit governance. Practices and adheres to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. Independently provides and coordinates care to patients within a clinical specialty. Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Demonstrates and models the full range of nursing professional practice and participates in the development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost effectiveness at the unit level. Accounts to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care. Accounts to peers for the advancement of group practice and to the nurse manager for total work performance. Qualifications Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training. Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligibility to practice under Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing. Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education per year. Member of a professional organization. Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to lead others, such as effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource. Ability to learn and use computer systems to manage patient information. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served. Demonstrated/documented highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Patient Safety Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. Reports adverse events and near misses to the appropriate management authority. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, and devices and communicates them to those in charge.
