Part-Time Cashier

Job Overview Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is hiring a Cashier to efficiently process customer transactions at the front registers while ensuring high customer service and proper cash handling. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Walk the store prior to each shift to ensure awareness of promotional and sale items; conduct produce walk and weekly testing. Compute bill, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due. Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, gift cards, or automatic debits. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, or change due to customers. Operate cash register by passing price‑coded items across electronic scanner to record price, enter in PLU or UPC manually, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen. Greets customers entering store and responds promptly to customer needs. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and ensure no personnel items are in the area. Issue coupons and rain checks. Other duties as assigned. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalency degree. Preferred 1–2 years grocery retail experience in Front End department processes and procedures. Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Maintain the highest level of customer service at all times. Adapt to the ever‑changing high volume retail while working in a cross‑functional team environment. Take initiative when problems arise. Adapt in a variety of situations; flexible. Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of MS Office; ability to use a Point of Sale (POS) System. Multitask, organize, and support team goals. Work varied hours/days as business dictates. Basic math, weights, and measures. Physical Demands Sit 1–2 hours; stand continuously 1–8 hours; walk 2–8 hours; drive 2–4 hours. Bend, climb, crouch, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, and lift/carry within specified limits (0–10 lbs. to 51–100 lbs.). Repetitive motion, grasping, fine manipulation, and lower extremities as indicated. Compensation This job generally starts between $15.00 and $16.50 per hour, with raises occurring in accordance with the Fresh Thyme Market plan policy.
