Occupational Therapist

As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital part in helping patients regain independence and improve their quality of life following illness, injury, or surgery. You will conduct comprehensive evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide therapeutic interventions to address a variety of patient needs. You will also educate patients and their families on self-management techniques to ensure continued progress after discharge.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Educating patients on activities of daily living (ADLs): Dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility.
• Supporting patient development of functional skills: Strengthening, coordination, balance, and endurance.
• Supporting patient development of cognitive skills: Memory, attention, problem-solving, and reasoning.
• Providing pre-vocational or vocational skills: Returning to work or retraining for a new career.
• Recommending appropriate home modifications or assistive devices to ensure a safe and successful transition back home.
• Collaborating with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other rehab professionals to develop a comprehensive plan of care for each patient.
• Documenting patient progress and outcomes to measure treatment effectiveness.
• Educating patients and their families on strategies to maintain their improved function at home.
• Staying up-to-date on the latest occupational therapy practices through continuing education.

Requirements:

Minimum qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):

• Current, unencumbered license to practice professional Occupational Therapy in the state where currently practicing.
• Current BLS required via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (required).

Education, training, and experience:

• Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (required).
• 2 years of Inpatient Rehabilitation experience (preferred).
• Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
• Proficient in documentation and medical record keeping.
• Strong understanding of current trends and best practices in rehabilitation medicine.
