RN II-PEDS

Provides planning, coordination, and nursing care to pediatric patients on specified shifts. Responsible for care planning, medication administration, noting physiological changes, and psychosocial needs of pediatric patients. Educates and trains patients and their families regarding care. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Cross trained and may float to the neonatal intensive care unit. Demonstrates competence in nursing interventions for stable and acutely ill pediatric patients. Skilled in medication administration, intravenous therapy, and the care of indwelling catheters and drains. Knowledgeable in the use of medical equipment in the pediatric acute care environment. Demonstrates understanding of care for pediatric patients requiring ventilatory support devices and procedures. Manages a variety of diagnoses in pediatric patients from newborns to 18 years of age. Provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate care. Exhibits appropriate clinical judgment in managing pediatric emergencies. Understands pediatric fluid and electrolyte management and pediatric nutrition. Identifies abnormal lab values and notifies physicians accordingly. Provides psychosocial support to families and caregivers throughout hospitalization. Initiates a multidisciplinary, family-centered, goal-oriented care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team. Educates caregivers on in-hospital and post-discharge care. Completes accurate and timely documentation of nursing care provided. Performs unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Committed to the safety and wellbeing of associates and patients.
