Diagnostic Diesel TechnicianEcology Auto Parts, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and tech-savvy Diagnostic Diesel Technician to join our dynamic Fleet & Maintenance team. This position requires advanced knowledge in diesel mechanics paired with modern diagnostic expertise, specifically with Cummins and Paccar engine platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of electronic diagnostic software, data analysis, and fault resolution to ensure our fleet is operating at peak performance.Working under the direction of the Shop Manager, the selected candidate will serve as the go-to technician for engine diagnostics, root cause analysis, and smart repair strategies, supporting operations at either our Long Beach or Santa Fe Springs locations.ResponsibilitiesDiagnose and repair engine issues using OEM diagnostic platforms (Cummins Insite, Paccar DAVIE4, etc.)Conduct electrical, emission system, and sensor diagnostics across a variety of heavy-duty diesel trucksInterpret fault codes and performance data, update ECU software, and calibrate sensors as neededPerform advanced preventative maintenance and major component overhauls when necessaryTroubleshoot aftertreatment systems, DEF issues, DPF regens, and other emissions-related concernsDocument all repair activities in fleet maintenance software systems with accuracy and clarityAssist in training junior mechanics on electronic diagnostics and standard repair techniquesProvide input on fleet condition and recommend strategies to reduce downtime and improve efficiencyMaintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of assigned workspaces in accordance with OSHA and company standardsRequirementsMinimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience with advanced troubleshooting abilitiesProven experience with Cummins and Paccar engine diagnostics, software use, and repairsHigh School Diploma or equivalent (required); technical certification in Diesel Technology (preferred)Valid Driver's License and eligibility to work in the U.S.Strong proficiency in electronic diagnostic tools, laptops, and OEM software systemsAbility to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical service bulletinsHighly organized, self-motivated, and able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environmentCapable of lifting 50–75 pounds, bending, standing, and working in physically demanding conditionsCommitment to safe practices and compliance with all federal and state regulationsPhysical Demands/Environmental FactorsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hearFrequently required to stand and walkMust frequently lift and/or move up to 75 poundsRequires regular lifting, pulling, and physical manipulation of tools and equipmentExposure to varying weather conditions, vehicle fluids, and noisy environmentsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focusSome travel requiredCompensationThe Diagnostic Diesel Technician role offers a competitive hourly wage range of $25 to $35 per hour, based on experience and diagnostic proficiency.
