Phlebotomist with Processing Experience CCI Lab, Part Time

Job Summary Mon‑Friday 7:00 a.m. – Noon; 25‑hour rotating shift, majority 7:30 a.m.‑12:30 p.m. The CCI Lab Tech/Phlebotomist provides phlebotomy, specimen processing, sample storage, shipping, and administrative support for the Center for Clinical Investigation and related units. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy for all research patients in the CCI clinical space and department clinical spaces campuswide. Obtain vital signs, perform EKGs as required, and document procedures using accurate medical terminology. Process and ship specimen samples for research studies; interpret orders and perform routine specimen analysis using waived instrumentation. Maintain freezer and other specimen storage, log inventory, retrieve samples for study teams, and distribute specimens per protocol. Perform clerical duties: patient check‑in/check‑out, room utilization, phone answering, appointment scheduling, and other administrative tasks to support clinic flow. Keep laboratory and examination rooms clean, safe, and well‑stocked; participate in daily cleaning, decontamination, and equipment maintenance. Maintain equipment logs, schedule preventive maintenance, and report equipment issues for timely repair or replacement. Ensure compliance with BWH and CCI policies, quality assurance procedures, safety controls, and infection control standards. Assist in team operations: complete daily checklists, support readiness audits, orient new staff, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, research teams, and coworkers, demonstrating courtesy, respect, and empathy. Adhere to scheduled work hours, report absences or tardiness with adequate notice, and maintain a high‑quality patient‑care environment. Qualifications Education : High School Diploma or Equivalent. No degree can be substituted with experience. Licenses / Credentials : Class D passenger vehicle driver’s license (preferred). Experience : No prior experience required; completion of a phlebotomy course is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Proficient in phlebotomy collection methods and specimen processing, including tube selection, volume, and stability. Strong written and oral communication, ability to prioritize and manage time, and to adapt to changing work volumes. Excellent customer‑service skills with empathy for patient privacy and autonomy. Independent and collaborative, fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting diverse perspectives. Proficient in using laboratory information systems and entering data accurately.
