Cafeteria Assistant

Job Description: To maintain schools and other facilities to the extent that students and employees can work in a healthy and safe environment. To work collaboratively with the department and building administration. To foster an inclusive work environment, maintaining high morale.

Qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate. Current ServSafe Certification preferred. Must be able to work with food staff as a team member using positive communication.

Performance Responsibilities: Assists in the preparation and service of food and assigned related duties. Must maintain quality food standards. Responsible for the collection, recording, and preparation of the daily bank deposit for all food service facilities. Responsible for monthly bank reports to the food service supervisor. Responsible for the training of cashiers in the district. Assists in the completion of daily production records as assigned. Must comply with all food safety requirements and HACCP procedures. Must comply with all USDA regulations by following the written menu established by the food service supervisor. Must communicate positively with all kitchen staff and work as a team member. Must treat all students and staff with respect. Must participate in required training and meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Work involves medium- to heavy-lifting of boxes, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, maneuvering in confined spaces, and prolonged standing and walking; work requires exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and odors commonly associated with cooking, cleaning, and school in general. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle; or feel objects, tools, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with their hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stop, or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee may frequently lift, push/pull, and/or move such items as food trays or mobile food carts, cleaning supplies, pails, trash receptacles.
