Surgical Tech II, Certified - Labor & Delivery

Job Summary Part‑time Labor & Delivery Surgical Technologist (Day shift, 7am‑7pm). The role functions under the direction of the registered professional nurse and assists the health care team in providing safe, age‑appropriate, and culturally aware patient care during moderate to high acuity surgical cases, including vaginal deliveries. Responsibilities Assist providers and nurses in vaginal deliveries, obtaining weights, measurements, and infant footprints. Prepare operative suites and surgical fields, ensuring a sterile environment and patient safety. Gather required instruments and supplies, serve as surgical assistant, and maintain an organized back table and operative field. Assist with room set‑up, opening sterile supplies, and setting up the sterile table according to procedure preference cards. Perform surgical counts with circulator, actively participate in the procedure pause/time‑out, and assist in draping sterile fields. Pass instruments to surgeon, anticipate and offer suggestions, and maintain highest standard of sterile technique. Prepare sterile dressings, participate in post‑procedure pause, and handle specimens appropriately. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization; informs SPD of critical needs. Apply principles of asepsis to prevent infection and ensure safety of patients and employees. Prepare case carts, review surgical schedule, and assist clinical coordinator with future case preparation. Observe patient condition, report significant changes to physician and registered nurse. Plan for next steps during procedure, adjust without faltering during emergencies. Prepare OR rooms and other areas for patients, stock, clean equipment, and order supplies. Maintain financial stewardship of supplies, opening only what is required. Act as patient advocate, provide comfort and safety measures for specific age patients. Assist between cases with terminal cleaning, preparing rooms for next patient, and transporting patients. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and seek opportunities to improve processes. Education High School Diploma or GED (General or Accredited program in Surgical Technology). Licenses & Certifications Required upon hire: CST – Cert Surgical Tech or TS‑C(NCCT) – Tech in Surgery – Certified, CSFA – Certified Surgical First Assistant, or CSA – Certified Surgical Assistant. BLS (Basic Life Support) and related certification (ARC‑BLS or BLS‑I) required. Experience Experience as a preceptor or mentor preferred. Skills Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Collaborate with healthcare providers and delegate to team members. Multi‑tasking and functioning under stress and emergencies. Attention to detail and critical thinking. Knowledge of surgical procedures. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel). Effective verbal and written communication. Self‑directed, independent judgment, and adaptability.
