Details Acute care setting in a Med/Surg ICU unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center serving as the primary tertiary hospital for the system 34-bed unit treating adult and pediatric patients (15+ years old) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries Nurse‑to‑patient ratios: 1:1–2 (ICU), 1:4–5 (PCU), and 1:5–6 (Med/Surg) RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics Procedures and equipment include CVPs, A‑lines, Swan‑Ganz catheters, EV‑1000, ICP monitoring, CRRT, Impella, IABP, Zoll Thermoguard, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser — training available for some Respiratory therapy equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms — no telemetry techs on unit EMR: Epic 12‑hour night shifts (1830–0630) Schedule is manager‑assigned based on unit needs Every other weekend required Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 major holidays, or every other, based on unit needs Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU An interview with unit leadership is required for this position Requirements Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required BSN is not required Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms independently A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address) Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Additional Information Nurses collaborate with attendings, fellows, and residents in a team‑oriented environment focused on high‑quality care Charge nurse is present on every shift, attends RRTs and codes, and does not carry a patient assignment Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:18 ratio Unit orientation consists of 2 shifts, followed by a pass/fail open‑book skills exam on the Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass Navy blue scrubs required Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas RTO must be declared upfront; 7 days or fewer per 13‑week contract — additional RTO will not be approved Candidates who were previously employed directly (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible — those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered This is a fast‑paced unit with census that fluctuates due to its role as a primary tertiary facility American Traveler Job ID #P-722713.
