JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Therapy

REPORTS TO: Therapy Manager

SUPERVISES: Occupational Therapist Assistants

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides quality patient care to patients. These services include assessment, intervention, program planning, implementation, related documentation, patient and family education, interdisciplinary collaboration and inservice presentation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides quality patient care by screening individuals to determine need for intervention, conducting a comprehensive evaluation and individualized treatment based on assessment.
• Monitoring patient's response to treatment and modifying plan as needed.
• Educating and counseling of patients, families and caregivers.
• Providing supervision of treatment by rehabilitation technicians and aides.
• Terminating services when maximum benefit is received and formulating discharge and follow-up plans.
• Completes documentation according to standards and time frames set by the hospital by providing documentation of assessments, progress notes, patient and family education, reassessments, and discharge summaries, interdisciplinary documentation and maintaining documentation required by the organization, third party payers, and regulatory agencies.
• Consistently functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team by consulting team members regarding evaluation findings, implementing the intervention plan in collaboration with team members, communicating and collaborating with team members, patient, family and caregivers.
• Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Plans occupational therapy treatment program for each patient, based upon interpretation of evaluation results; interprets evaluation findings for patient, family, and treatment team members.
• Develops realistic goals with patient input; explains treatment plan and goals to patient.
• Implements treatment or supervises treatment provided by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, or occupational therapy student. Delegates routine care to supportive personnel as appropriate. Acts in a supervisory role to ensure proper execution of tasks.
• Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings. Participates in continuing education program to ensure appropriate units are attained for maintenance of State license.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Bachelor or Master's degree from a College/University program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Successful completion of the National Registration Examination. Licensed by the State Board of Occupational Therapy.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

The therapist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Hospital experience preferred.
