Medical Device Assembler
Location: Sparks, MD
Pay Rate: $23.00/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical Device Assembler to join our manufacturing team in Sparks, MD. In this role, you will perform a wide range of assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and quality inspection activities for complex medical devices and electromechanical instruments. This position requires strong technical assembly skills, the ability to interpret engineering documentation, and experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience building electromechanical assemblies, performing testing and troubleshooting, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities
Assembly & Integration

• Assemble, integrate, and test complex medical devices, electronic assemblies, and mechanical subassemblies.
• Build multiple product lines, including integration of components and subassemblies into finished instruments.
• Perform wiring, cable harnessing, hand soldering, component installation, fitting, and mechanical assembly operations.
• Follow engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and specifications to complete assembly tasks.
• Use hand tools, power tools, gauges, torque drivers, fixtures, jigs, and measuring devices.

Testing & Troubleshooting

• Conduct basic component and module testing on assemblies and instruments.
• Execute test procedures and analyze results to determine pass/fail status and required corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot and repair routine to moderately complex assembly and instrument issues.
• Disassemble, modify, rework, and reassemble products as needed.
• Support prototype and experimental builds under simulated operating conditions.

Quality & Documentation

• Maintain accurate device history records, including serial number tracking and tool documentation.
• Conduct quality inspections according to established specifications and procedures.
• Identify defects and recommend process and product improvements.
• Ensure compliance with GMP requirements and company quality standards.
• Maintain proper documentation of production activities and test results.

Continuous Improvement & Team Support

• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events, shift start-up meetings, safety initiatives, and process improvement projects.
• Provide training and guidance to other technicians and production associates.
• Work collaboratively with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Purchasing teams.
• Support team goals, productivity targets, and operational excellence initiatives.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all company safety, quality, and housekeeping procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
• Perform material handling activities for raw materials and subassemblies.
• Work overtime as required to support production demands.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required with a minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience; OR
• Associate's Degree (Technical) with at least 1 year of manufacturing experience.
• Experience working in a regulated manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or GMP environment is required.

Required Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude and assembly experience.
• Proficiency reading blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation.
• Experience using torque drivers, gauges, measuring tools, and hand tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot assembly and production issues independently.
• Strong understanding of quality systems and manufacturing procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and production orders effectively.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience mentoring or training others.
• Commitment to Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles.

Technical Skills

• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows environments.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to analyze data, follow diagrams, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a repetitive manufacturing environment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to perform detailed assembly work requiring manual dexterity.
