Job Title: Welder / Fitter
Job Description
This role focuses on welding, fitting, and fabricating structural steel components for the construction industry. You will produce high-quality structural steel parts that meet AWS standards, using both manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions. You will work from blueprints, perform precise measurements, and ensure all fabricated components meet dimensional and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Weld, fit, and fabricate structural steel components for construction projects.
- Perform basic 1G and 2G welds that meet AWS standards and quality requirements.
- Use micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure accurate fabrication.
- Interpret and work from blueprints and fabrication drawings to assemble and fit structural steel components.
- Assemble, tack, and weld components in preparation for final welding and installation.
- Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to weld components in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions, depending on experience level.
- Perform flux core arc welding (FCAW) on structural steel in accordance with shop procedures and standards.
- Inspect welds and fabricated components for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment safely.
- Collaborate with team members in the shop bay to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in welding, fabrication, and fitting of structural steel components.
- Ability to perform flux core welding (FCAW) on structural steel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
- Proficiency with basic 1G and 2G welds that meet AWS standards.
- Skill in using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensions.
- Experience assembling, tacking, and welding structural steel components.
- Ability to weld in multiple positions, including vertical, horizontal, and overhead, depending on experience level.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and fabrications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working as a welder/fitter in a structural steel or construction-related environment.
- Comfort working with flux core processes and structural steel fabrication techniques.
- Ability to follow shop procedures and quality standards consistently.
- Willingness to participate in in-house training programs to further develop welding and fitting skills.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills in a shop environment.

Work Environment
You will work in a covered, indoor shop bay environment focused on structural steel fabrication. The setting includes welding and fabrication equipment, manual and semi-automatic welding machines, and standard measuring and fitting tools. Work hours can include swing shifts, with a shift differential available, and there is regular access to overtime, potentially up to 60 hours per week, depending on workload and business needs. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and consistent production of high-quality structural steel components.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $32.00/hr.
