JOB SUMMARY
The person in this position performs professional graphic design and visual communications work to support City-wide marketing, branding, and public information initiatives. This role is responsible for designing and producing high-quality marketing materials, maintaining brand consistency across platforms, and serving as the City’s primary photographer and a key multimedia content creator. The Graphic Design Coordinator works collaboratively with City departments to visually communicate programs, services, events, and initiatives while ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and adherence to established branding standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Designs and produces marketing and promotional materials for City programs, services, initiatives, campaigns, and events, including print and digital media.
- Develops graphics and visual content for job postings, City-wide promotions, public awareness campaigns, and special initiatives.
- Ensures consistent application of the City’s brand identity, visual standards, and messaging across all communication platforms.
- Serves as the City’s primary photographer, capturing images for official events, promotional projects, City leadership headshots, and workforce highlights.
- Captures and edits video content for City meetings, concerts, events, and special projects to support public communication and outreach efforts.
- Edits, retouches, and prepares photographs and video footage for use in marketing, communications, and archival purposes.
- Assists with audio/visual setup and operation for City Council meetings, concerts, and other municipal functions as needed.
- Collaborates with City departments to gather information, interpret communication needs, and develop effective visual solutions.
- Maintains organized archives of marketing materials, photographs, and video assets for future use and reference.
- Recommends and supports best practices, standards, and guidelines for graphic design and photography in alignment with the City’s brand and communication objectives.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field; two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, visual communications, photography, or multimedia production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of graphic design principles, branding standards, and visual communication strategies.
- Knowledge of photography, videography, and digital media production techniques.
- Knowledge of City branding guidelines, public-sector communications, and marketing best practices.
- Skill to design professional-quality marketing materials for print and digital platforms.
- Skill to operate professional photography, video, lighting, and audio/visual equipment.
- Skill to use advanced digital media, graphic design, and photo/video editing software.
- Ability to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in visual messaging with wide public reach.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently, prioritize deadlines, and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse departments and stakeholders.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work and requires sitting, standing, and the ability to alternate between sitting and standing; lifting and carrying equipment; keyboarding; gross and fine manipulation; reaching overhead and at or below shoulder level; crouching, kneeling, stooping, and climbing stairs; near, far, and peripheral vision; hearing; and speaking. The position requires the ability to safely operate photography, video, and audio/visual equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in a combination of office, studio, and field environments, including indoor and outdoor City facilities and event locations. The position may require occasional evening or weekend work to support City meetings, events, and special projects. The role involves high public visibility, where accuracy and attention to detail are essential to avoid misinformation, legal exposure, or reputational risk to the City.
