Project Engineer - Water / Wastewater - Virginia Beach, VA

Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a project engineer with 2+ years of experience to join our Virginia Beach, VA office for water‑related assignments such as Environmental, Civil, and Water Resources. The role involves planning, modeling, and design of water, wastewater, stormwater, and infrastructure projects under the supervision of a professional engineer. Tasks range from initial studies to construction, including fieldwork and site visits. Responsibilities Perform technical analyses to support the identification and evaluation of sustainable water and wastewater management solutions. Prepare and review technical reports and documentation related to environmental engineering projects. Assist in the planning and design of environmental protection systems to support public and ecosystem health. Analyze scientific and engineering data and perform quality control checks to support regulatory compliance. Provide technical support for environmental projects, including modeling of treatment and conveyance systems, vendor coordination, and technical input for permitting and regulatory approvals. Show flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. Mentorship May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge‑sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles. Skills and Competencies Working knowledge of environmental engineering principles and standard practices. Developing problem‑solving and analytical skills. Ability to interpret scientific and engineering data with accuracy and attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience Minimum of 2 years of related work experience in Environmental Engineering or a related field. Certification in BC's Subject Matter Specialist Framework, and progress through the SMS competencies. Preferred Skills and Experience Proficiency in GIS, CAD/BIM, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, PowerBI, and other relevant software. Experience in field work including BMP inspections, water quality field monitoring, and sampling. Education Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or a related field is required. Preferred Education Advanced degree (Master’s) in Environmental or Civil Engineering. EIT with a goal to eventually acquire PE license in VA.
