Job Description
Residential Family Support Specialist (R-FSS) Swing Shift
Mountain Home Montana is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and collaborative Residential Family Support Specialist (R-FSS) to support young mothers and their children living in our residential program.
This role focuses on helping families strengthen parenting skills, develop healthy routines, build independent living skills, and work toward individualized treatment goals. During the busy afternoon and evening hours, the Swing Shift R-FSS provides hands-on support, family coaching, and Home Support Services (HSS) while helping residents navigate childcare transitions, meals, household responsibilities, appointments, and daily routines.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with families, understands the importance of trauma-informed care, and can balance compassion and flexibility with consistency, accountability, and professional boundaries.
Pay: $22.00–$30.00 per hour
Schedule: Swing shift, 3:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
Employment Type: Full-time, non-exempt
Location: Hybrid, with onsite residential support and local travel as needed
What You'll Do
Family Support and Skill-Building
- Work directly with young mothers and their children to strengthen parenting skills, family functioning, and independence.
- Model and coach developmentally appropriate parenting practices and healthy family interactions.
- Help residents establish consistent afternoon and evening routines, including meals, household responsibilities, bedtime preparation, and planning for the following day.
- Support childcare pick-ups and transitions back to the residence.
- Coach residents in daily living skills, including meal preparation, nutrition, budgeting, organization, hygiene, scheduling, and household management.
- Use modeling, prompting, and hands-on practice to help residents build skills they can use independently.
Home Support Services (HSS)
- Provide individualized, treatment-plan-directed HSS focused on parenting, independent living, emotional regulation, household management, community participation, and access to resources.
- Plan purposeful activities that support residents' identified treatment goals.
- Help residents identify strengths, overcome barriers, and take practical steps toward greater independence.
- Support residents during appointments, errands, community activities, and other approved outings related to treatment goals.
- Coordinate with therapists, case managers, clinical supervisors, and other treatment-team members to support resident progress.
- Meet established service-delivery, productivity, and documentation expectations.
Afternoon and Evening Residential Support
- Maintain an engaged, supportive presence during high-activity evening hours.
- Help residents navigate household routines, shared responsibilities, meals, and family activities.
- Reinforce consistent expectations while respecting resident choice and individual needs.
- Monitor resident and child safety and follow established safety plans and emergency procedures.
- Respond to conflict, distress, or behavioral escalation using trauma-informed strategies and appropriate guidance from clinical and residential leadership.
- Assist with transportation to childcare, appointments, treatment activities, errands, and other approved destinations as assigned.
Documentation and Communication
- Complete accurate and timely HSS service notes, electronic health record (EHR) documentation, and required tracking records.
- Maintain an up-to-date work calendar reflecting client services, meetings, availability, and planned time off.
- Communicate resident progress, family needs, emerging concerns, and barriers to treatment goals with the appropriate team members.
- Coordinate with residential staff to support continuity between shifts and communicate outstanding needs before leaving.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements when working onsite, in the community, or during approved offsite documentation time.
Teamwork and Professionalism
- Collaborate with residential staff, childcare staff, case managers, therapists, and program leadership.
- Follow clinical direction regarding treatment goals and HSS services, and residential leadership direction regarding scheduling, transportation, and household responsibilities.
- Maintain professional boundaries while building trusting relationships with residents and families.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and professional development.
- Support the upkeep and organization of the residential program as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications

- Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
- Ability to model and coach healthy boundaries, emotional regulation, parenting practices, and independent living skills.

- Excellent interpersonal, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during crises, conflict, or behavioral escalation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with residential, childcare, case management, and clinical staff.
- Ability to complete timely, accurate service documentation in an electronic health record.
- Competency using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and electronic health record systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to meet agency transportation requirements.

- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience providing Medicaid-funded services or completing service documentation.
- Knowledge of family systems, child development, parenting education, and community resources
