Staff Nurse – Transfer Care – University of Iowa Health Care Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign‑on incentive up to $10,000 based on years of experience. The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking to hire Staff Nurses to join the Transfer Care team in the Emergency Department (ED) at our University Campus. The ED Transfer Care Nurse is a member of the ED team that initiates inpatient care for the adult patient population and cares for a variety of admitted medical and surgical patients, including neurology/neurosurgery, medicine, cardiology, and oncology. The Transfer Care Nurse team emphasizes flexibility and adaptability. Responsibilities Applies nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. Assesses patient health‑care preferences and expectations. Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings. Develops patient‑care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic factors; prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. Implements patient‑care plans according to patient priorities, documenting interventions and patient/family response. Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient‑care plans. Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care. Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Required – Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA). Licensure / Certification – License to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire. Experience Requirements – Minimum six months RN inpatient hospital nursing experience or completion of senior internship/preceptorship or at least 100 clinical hours on a med/surg or step‑down unit; proven autonomy with interdisciplinary collaboration; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; general computer proficiency. Desired Qualifications – Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree in Nursing highly desired; active enrollment in a BSN program if Baccalaureate not yet obtained; experience in telemetry and/or neurology desired; knowledge of university policies and procedures desired. Schedule & Location 50 – 100% staff positions. 20–40 hours per week, dependent on percentage of position. Rotating day, evening, night shifts and rotating days off. 12‑hour shifts available. Weekend and holiday rotating assignments required. Orientation will be at 100% schedule/40 hours per week; orientation duration may vary. Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa. Pay & Benefits Salary: $60,000 minimum at 100% effort, commensurate with experience and percent of effort. Salary may vary based on experience and percent of effort. Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts; premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours; inpatient differential of up to $10,000 per year.
