Build your future with us Our Surety department is currently seeking an Underwriting Director in our commercial and small contract division. Surety bonding involves assessing the ability of one party to fulfill an obligation to another party according to the terms of a contract or statute. This position is located at our headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. It requires you to be in the office Monday – Thursday with a WFH option on Friday. Salary: The starting pay for this position ranges from $140,000 - $220,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance. Responsibilities Direct and lead a team of production and field underwriters for profitable growth. Master all underwriting tasks required for Commercial Surety and Small Contract Surety. Maintain awareness of each territory within the commercial surety and small surety team and develop working relationships with underwriters, field reps, and underwriting managers. Demonstrate high proficiency in analysis, administration, marketing/negotiation and communication. Handle complex underwriting requests and decide when to involve senior management. Mentor team underwriters on advanced financial and risk analysis topics. Advise and make proposals for policy and underwriting changes based on market conditions. Analyze underwriting territory portfolio, develop strategy and implement plan. Provide advice, direction to underwriters and assist with approvals. Communicate concerns on new and/or existing business. Evaluate and decide on changes to processes/procedures. Assist the team with daily workflow and activity as requested. Key Qualifications Willing and able to assume special functions, roles or responsibilities. High level proficiency in analysis, administration, communication and support. Extensive knowledge of all systems, technologies, processes and insurance knowledge. Advanced communication skills and respected across departments. Build constructive working relationships characterized by acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect. Recover quickly from setbacks, find alternative paths to reach goals. Lead and help others resolve complex underwriting accounts or situations. Handle high workloads, competing demands, vague assignments, interruptions and distractions with poise. Proficiency in agency marketing. Identify, propose, underwrite and execute profitable program opportunities with high customer service and satisfaction. Knowledge Proficiency in underwriting, administration, communications and support. Mastery of underwriting and administrative tools and procedures. Education & Experience A bachelor’s degree from a business college with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, or Economics is preferred, along with a minimum of 5 years underwriting or leading in surety.
