HOT SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description for Physical Therapist DEPARTMENT: Student Support Services JOB STATUS: Full Time POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A REPORTS TO: Special Education Supervisor GRADE/LEVEL: PK-12 F.L.S.A: Exempt WORK SCHEDULE: 178 contracted days POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Special Education Supervisor, the school Physical Therapist, as a member of the educational team, supports the education of students suspected of and/or diagnosed with disability in their least restrictive environment. The school physical therapist develops, implements and coordinates a physical therapy program within the local educational agency (LEA); providing screening, evaluation and intervention services. Skilled provision of physical therapy prevents injury (acute or chronic) of both students and educational staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To conduct, with parent permission, an evaluation of a student's gross motor development To conduct informal classroom observations with verbal recommendations regarding possible physical therapy evaluation and treatment To provide written assessment report based on evaluations To assist in the development and implementation of an Individualized Education Plan for each student receiving occupational therapy services To perform reevaluations of those students receiving physical therapy services To provide direct therapy on an individual or small group basis and consultation services, as specified in the IEP To establish and coordinate physical therapy schedule with other therapists and teachers, allowing flexibility for classroom structure plus travel, consultation, planning and evaluation time To maintain therapy notes on all Medicaid eligible students receiving physical therapy To provide consultation to teachers and parents for suggestions, carryover and use of adaptive equipment To demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, parents, students and community To function under policies established by the Hot Springs Board of Education To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee's supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in a job related field with an accredited educational institution in Physical Therapy. The degree should indicate coursework in the principles and practice of educational guidance, educational testing and measurement, counseling, the psychology of learning, and statistics. Other requirements per job description. EXPERIENCE One year experience in a job related field or educational equivalency is preferred, but not required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive movements. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects often. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
