Building Maintenance And Repair Technician

This position is responsible for performing building maintenance and repair including all aspects of interior and exterior maintenance. Duties also include performing various skills in repair and maintenance of new and current construction and includes, but is not limited to painting, electrical, plumbing, concrete repair and the operation of associated building maintenance equipment and vehicles to keep County facilities attractive and safe.

Examples of duties include troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with failed or broken HVAC equipment, lighting, mechanical, plumbing, etc. Diagnoses, repairs, and/or replaces parts in HVAC equipment, lighting, plumbing, etc. Inspects and checks HVAC units, motors, fans, valves, plumbing, and lighting on a routine schedule. Assembles and moving of furniture, fixtures, etc. Routinely cleans gutters, downspouts, HVAC coils, filter compartments, etc. Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy. Performs other assigned duties.

Physical demands include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of related work experience; or equivalent training, education, and/or experience. Licenses/certifications include a driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

All County employees may be required to report to serve our customers during emergency conditions. While some will perform their regular duties, others may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties from their regular jobs. Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty.
