Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

The General Laborer monitors production lines to ensure unwanted materials do not pass through, assists with clearing machine jams in coordination with the shift lead, and supports overall facility operations through cleaning and material handling tasks across multiple shifts.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the production line continuously to ensure that no unwanted materials pass through the process.
• Work closely with the shift lead to safely identify, clear, and prevent machine jams as they occur.
• Handle and sort materials to ensure they are directed to the correct locations within the facility.
• Perform general cleaning duties around the facility to maintain a safe and organized work area.
• Support general production activities, including packing, assembly, and basic material movement as needed.
• Use hand tools and basic equipment to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
• Assist with packaging tasks, including preparing, packing, and staging materials for further processing or shipment.
• Perform general labor tasks that may include picking, concrete-related work, and basic landscaping duties as required by operations.
• Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while working in a dirty, hot, and trash-smelling environment.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leads to report issues, request assistance, and ensure smooth workflow.

Essential Skills

• Ability to perform general labor and production tasks in a physically demanding environment.
• Comfort working in dirty, hot conditions and around strong odors such as those in a recycling plant.
• Capability to monitor production lines and quickly identify unwanted materials or potential issues.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with a lead and team members to clear machine jams and resolve problems.
• Basic experience with hand tools and manual equipment used in general labor and production work.
• Ability to perform cleaning duties and maintain an organized work area.
• Reliability to work assigned shifts, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift Monday through Friday.
• Entry-level readiness with the ability to learn tasks quickly and follow instructions accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general production, packaging, or assembly environments is beneficial.
• Experience in solar, carpentry, concrete work, or landscaping is a plus.
• Experience operating a forklift or working in a warehouse or recycling facility is an advantage.
• Prior exposure to dirty or hot work environments is helpful but not required.
• Ability to adapt to changing tasks and support different areas of the facility as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a dirty recycling plant that smells like trash and can be hot, requiring comfort with physically demanding and less-than-pristine conditions. Work is performed on production lines and around facility areas where cleaning, sorting, and general labor tasks are common. Shifts operate Monday through Friday, with 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 3rd shift from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Employees may use hand tools, packing and assembly equipment, and potentially forklifts, while adhering to all safety guidelines appropriate for an industrial recycling environment.Experien

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cape Girardeau, MO.

The pay range for this position is $15.75 - $16.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
